shot my first ever rabbit today. MY dog still hasen't run one yet but all hope isn't lost...yet. she is just 8 mths old. Oh yes, mi first... This hunt reminded me of when I used to terrorize squirrels in the neighborhood. Me and my friend would stand on either side of a tree and each would pop it when it came to our side. The rabbits were kinda like that. We had 5 do nothing dogs and one good one (the father of mine!). Three of us would surround a spot (brush or briars) and wait on the dog(s) to run him/her out. It was great! We shot three total. One of them we shot treee times with 12 g's #4 and #5 shot. That thing was still shrugging along when we let the younger pups get it. Of course my dog wanted nothing to do with it :(

My beagle was like yours when he was young. When I took him out the next summer he went nuts chasing rabbits.i am not an expert on beagles.this is the first one I have owned but after he turned one he went after the rabbits. before that he would sit in my back yard and watch them 10 yards away through the fence and would not even move.
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm gonna keep trying to get her out with her dad, cause he's the shizlit. The old dog was the only one out of the six that we could depend on. There was a 3 yr old female that barked alot but was "cold nosing."
