Thinking of taking Friday but not getting set up until late morning (when I'm usually leaving the woods). Where I'm hunting (central/west middle TN), low/mid 50s all day and light winds forecast. I think the rut has passed, but hoping to catch one. Between a stand halfway up a hollow or a stand overlooking an old logging road in 5 year old clear cut with 4-5 year old pines throughout, which would you pick?

In prior years, I've paid attention to the moon, but haven't much at all this year as I have to hunt when I can, not always when I want. Can't say I notice any difference in activity. Moon is supposed to rise at 9:05am and will be overhead for the entire hunt. Not sure what to make, if anything, of that.
 
I have hunted middle of the day and seen few deer,but when coming out to est lunch on a normal hunt around 11:30 I have seen some good bucks .So go figure always made me think where are you deer when I hunt middle of the day. :?
 
It never hurts to try. I have killed a few deer during the middle of the day. Just be sure to "hunt your way in".
 
i personally try to hunt all day given my limited chances to hunt.i have seen/killed good deer at midday.10 to 2 is usually a good time for me.this year doesnt seem to matter what time of day{my situation}but i enjoy the midday myself. :tu:
 
Spent Nov 8th and 9th all day in a tree. Overslept Nov 10th and didn't get in the woods until 8Am. Stayed until dark. Total number of any deer seen between 10 and 2pm I can count on 2 fingers. Mornings were cool and deer movement was good. 4pm till dark activity picked up every day. Mid day sucked.
Yes ill continue to hunt mid day cause what else do I have to do on vacation.
 
Few years ago I killed a big buck a little after 12. There was a cold front rolling in and wind was blowing 20 mph but if I hadn't been there I wouldn't have gotten him. It's just like fishing if your hooks not in the water you aren't going to catch anything.
 
if you are hunting in Houston/ Hickman counties, there may be a few does yet to come into estrous, but the vast majority have already cycled. If you can find one of the last hot does, hunting will be phenomenal. If you don't, hunting will suck. I'd hunt a spot where I could cover as much ground as possible to find that last hot doe. The shooter bucks will be with her or if there is no hot doe, they will be nocturnal again and you have no chance at them.
