What would be a reasonably good detector to start with?
I nearly had to buy one a couple of weeks ago to find my dadgum hearing aid that popped off. Finally found it and decide I might need to research it a little.Might get one to do a little artifact hunting, find my spent rifle brass and find the hearing aid if need be.

AGREED 100%

This is the model I recommend everyone that is wanting to get into the hobby and not wanting to spend several hundred dollars for a detector. This is the best machine out there for the price point...as good as some machines in the $400-500 range. The step up from it would be the Tesoro Silver uMax. You can find them used on various metal detecting classifieds for around $100-150.

I started with an amigo 2 which is the same as the compadre I've now worked into a Cibola but I don't use it much, there isn't much going on in my area.
