I have been using a Whites xlpro but it was borrowed and im going to buy one now does anyone have any favorites? or have one for sale
 
I guess I'm the TnDeer metal detector guru.

I've owned every top end model by every manufacturer out there. I'm currently on the R&D teams for two companies. There ain't any technology that I know of that is like a transducer style ID. It still all goes via VDI conductive numbers or icons that coorispond with the VDI numbers themselves.

Whites machines are really decent machines. I've got their new Spectra V3 and it will blow your mind of what all it can do for ya but it carries a big price tag. I can get you one for about $1,200 though if you want one, which is about $400-500 less than you'll get one anywhere else. Their MXT is a decent machine as well, and is a basic turn on and go machine for relics and coins. It will run you about $600 though.

Right now the best things going for the $$ are the Fisher/Tecknetics machines. They are the same machines but do a search for the Fisher F-Series. I think a Fisher F-4 or F-5 would be a powerhouse machine for the $$. Great depth. Great target ID. Would be awesome around old homesites and in Civil War camp sites, or just hunting the ball parks/school yards for coins. I run their top end F-75 and it's my favorite machine for raw depth and power BUT its too much machine for coin hunting and such. Using it for that would be like using a drag racing car for city street driving.
 
thanks man I have been relic hunting and also looking around old revolutianary age homesites and havent had much luck except on horse shoes and pop tops.Never heard of fisher but looking into it right now. thanks

Yes I tested the LTD for a little while. I took it to a few of my local sites and up to northern Virginia relic hunting.

To be honest with you, First Texas (owners of Fisher and Teknetics) pulled a big one over on their customers with the LTD machines. They gave away several units to certain guys on the metal detecting forums, with the promise of "more things to come" if they hyped it up. So that's exactly what they did. That came to me straight from the horses mouth. That handful of folks convinced all the other forum members that the LTD was so much better than the regular F-75, that all of them sold their F-75s to buy this new limited series. Well basically all they got was the same thing as what they had, with a camo paint job and two "boost modes" that most of them never can use.

The unit that I tested, when you put it into the boost modes, it was so erratic and unstable that you couldn't use it. If a person lived with very sandy soil, with no RF interference...yeah they'd see a major depth improvement over a regular F-75. But for most folks...they turned around and bought the same thing they already had, only with a new paint job, and paid about $300 for it. Here in a month or so, they are releasing another batch of those LTD machines, in all black. If you remember, the LTD was suppose to be a machine built with a limited amount of circuit boards and once they were gone, they were gone forever....I guess they found some more boards for this new all black run :)

Kellyco is a decent company to price check with, but I think my buddy Keith could get you one a little cheaper than their $399. For what you get in performance though, this F4 is hard to beat. It has the same coil on it as my F-75 and it is a DD coil...which means it can handle the highly mineralized ground around here. The coil found on the F5 wouldn't do as good locally, but if you put the DD coil on it, THAT would make it the better of the two.

And in the Teknetics line...this one is a good one for the $.

And as a wild card machine. This one don't go as deep as the other two, but it was just plain "fun" to use. Great for school yards and coin hunting but wouldn't be a great relic machine or for around old home sites. I took one of these to a old football field and was digging silver dimes 6-7 inches deep with it...that my $900 Minelab Explorer wouldn't even hit!

I bought a Whites Prism 4 yesterday and I love it so far,got everything I wanted on it and bought it new for 350 and got a digging tool and headphones for 400 total.FOund a broke knife ,harness buckle in a cival war campsite today and a couple of other little peices.
 
I'm glad you like the machine but ya must not have called Keith. $350 is the MSRP on them. My cousin got the same machine you have from Keith a year or so ago. It came with a Whites bag, Whites headphones, Bullseye Pinpointer, and digging knife. Seems like he gave $200-$250 for it all. Don't worry though. My relic hunting friend spent $1,700 on a V3 at a Hobby store after I told him to give Keith a call...that Keith sells for $1,200. So it could have been worse. LOL.
