Metal Detector? I'm on the hunt

Looking to get a metal detector and wanted to throw the net out here and see if anyone has one they'd be willing to part with. I've never owned one, but thanks to the internet I'm pretty much an expert now . Interested in mainly relic hunting but I won't be picky.

Any suggestions on brands would be appreciated also. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest buying used from someone. From what I understand, some keep upgrading metal detectors like some of us upgrade guns. They buy, then want the next best thing.

CrowT can prob list some sites. Ebay for sure.

That's what I'm hoping. I'm sure I'll be "that guy" too one day, upgrading annually. Just my nature. Good news, there's several old home sites on my property and surrounding farms that I have permission to hunt/detect. Looking forward to getting out there and seeing what I can find.

My budget is much lower though, as I don't need anything that high speed, just something to find lost objects that I know I dropped in certain areas now and then.

In the same breath, I don't want to waste my time detecting for hours with some POS either. I'm looking at my safe (aka play money supply) and seeing which one of those guns is gonna turn into a metal detector.

With the price of weapons lately, you should be able to afford one that will find Hoffa's belt buckle. :)

Let's go detecting sometime, Specializedjon! Im just getting into it myself and have a Garrett AT MAX. Had it at the beach last week and, while I didn't find anything that would allow me to retire early, I did find quite a bit of pocket change, kids toys, sunglasses, and plenty of pull tabs. It was great 'practice' and a good learning experience on how to use the features and understand all the lingo. Here are a couple
pics of some of the stuff I found on the beach. One guy was also detecting with his Garrett one evening there and found a ladies Rolex and a diamond ring. He was just ahead of me. Just my luck.

Sorry Knothead, just now seeing this. I've only been out a few times around my property. Lots of nuts and bolts so far, no Rolex watches yet

That belt buckle is super cool. Maybe a saddle buckle? I don't know enough about it to say I guess.

Sorry. I mean the one with the US insignia on it. Looks kinda like a belt buckle, bridle buckle. I don't know much about these things so not sure what to call it.

I need to keep an eye on this thread.. I bought a detector like 5 yrs ago (never used it) loaned it to my FIL who I'm not sure ever used it, and he just returned it lol. With my "addictive personality" it would only take a few decent finds for me to be hooked.

Are you being serious or sarcastic? That area had quite a bit happen in the early war. Savannah has quite a few hunters that I know that have crazy big collections of Civil War relics. Just down the road in Corinth was the whole winter camps sites. Hundreds of Confederate buckles and buttons have been found there.

No sarcasm intended, never studied civil war history, except some military courses that used certain battles for reference. Just purchased some property out in the Hardin County area and thought it may be a good place to detect in. Sounds like I may get lucky if it hasn't been picked over by now

Also gonna get busy looking for Indian artifacts especially in one field where I have found a few in a small area. I suspect there was a village there.
