Mergansers have a reputation around here as fish ducks and I don't recall anyone cooking one until now. That may change.

What you talking about grey ducks and hollywoods like that for? If it weren't for Gadwalls, I would have went hungry, when I lived in MS.

Gadwall and shovelers are not divers. They are dabbling ducks just like wood ducks and mallards.

The other thing about ducks is that there is probably not that much variety in their diet. They may eat more of one thing than other duck species, but they are all eating some aquatic insects and aquatic vegetation.
