Moved here about two weeks ago. Left IL for many reasons. However I also.left a gem of hunting land. I am.currently.exploring the memphis area for archery opportunities. Can anyone point me in the direction of public land hunting or how to get a lease down here. This could possibly be my first year without killing a deer since I started hunting in 97. We dont know what it's like to eat beef in our house.. only venison!

Welcome! Can't help you in that part but lower your standards is all I can say! :poke: :rotf:. Just cutting up but there is tons of public to hunt and some decent hunting. Best of luck to you this season!

Open up the TWRA WMA maps and look for land near your location.

For next year, you can start applying for the President's Island quota hunts. The buck hunts have a ridiculous wait, but if you are just looking for a place to go, then apply for the doe hunts. It's a unique hunting place.

Other places to look into that aren't WMAs, some of which require permits to hunt:

Hatchie Refuge
Chickasaw Refuge (on MS River)

There are other opportunities in Arkansas and Mississippi, but I don't know anything about them.

Another options, is you may look into going down into MS. Lots of land, lots of WMA's near too. You can archery hunt Arkabutla which is close and there are some good deer in there. Lots of deer in Holly Springs NF too (as well as hunters) .

There is a lot of great archery hunting in west Tennessee, but being so close to AR and MS, I wouldn't hesitate to cross state lines. I live in Fayette county and will drive to AR to deer hunt. The archery season runs to the end of February and deer numbers and quality are great. Again, with any hunting, scouting out some tracts of land will be important for success. Get your boots on the ground and pick a handful of WMA's to look at and take it from there. Good luck.
