I just put fresh batteries in my Primos TruthCam Sat, getting ready to set it back out today. When I opened it up to check my settings, the batts had discharged acid and had melted into the case!!! I had to pry them out with a screwdriver as they were literally fused into the plastic case! I did check as I was prying them out and they were installed correctly, so what in the world could have happened? Anyone else ever had this type thing happen to them?
 
Yep all the time,it always good to check each Battery with a multimeter....you may have got lucky.... clean it up and put some new ones in it

Check your cam for a short around the battery comp.
If it does it again ...voltage regulator has went out.
 
Batt tray is pretty warped from melting, and even has a hole in it. I've used it for two sessions, and this was to be the third. Worked fine Sat after installing batts, took a few pics and all was good. Duracell is taking everything for eval.
 
Replied to your pm Charlie, but have had issues with pm's before not going thru from my phone, just in case you don't get it.
 
Sounds like a short circuit where the batteries overheated and leaked. Wouldn't be from acid, because alkaline batteries don't have acid. Sorry to hear that, I'd be bummed, had a cam get ruined by ants and would hate to have batteries melt my cam.

How would I go about checking for a short in the Batt comp? It's enclosed and only the terminals are showing. I'm not even related to any electricians. LOL

I really don't k ow where it would short, I'm guessing something in the circuitry went bad but you'd need someone more experienced than me to tear it apart and look... Did you say Duracell is doing that now?
 
I remember reading that on a Duracell package in the pat. If its their battery that went bad thy will replace the ruined device.
 
That's what they said, pending the eval of the device and batts. I'd like to check the cam somehow before sending it off if I could tho, then, if it was the cam, I could just deal with Primos.
 
Been in contact with Primos on this issue. They are now under Bushnell as they have merged with them. The lady was super nice, and said "well I guess we'll just have to replace it then!" :) Here's hoping the rest of the support team agree with her. ;)
 
They were only a couple months old, with a 10 yr guarantee. Duracell stepped up bigtime with an offer to send me a prepaid label to send batteries, AND camera to them for inspection and evaluation. Primos tho, just sent me a reply to ship the cam to them on my dime and they would inspect and eval in 3-4 weeks time. All options still open at this time, but after listening to the guys here who have experienced this issue before, I'm sending it to Primos/Bushnell first, thinking it could be the voltage regulator. If not that, then I'll take Duracell up on their offer. ;)
 
Exactly what I would have done ..if you let Duracell look at it first ,I would bet you would void your warranty.
If all else fails I will send you this old 35 I got and switch battery boxes out ,this older one runs off D's

Everyone ..check them Battery;s before installing
A new Alkaline is 1.62 volts whether it be AA ..C D ect.

Now the lithium are quite a bit more and should not be mixed with anything.They are great in cold weather.

Just one more thing and I will shut up..I was building a long term build with 4 D's and must have got one of the wires crossed ...it hissed and popped.Just for the heck of it I checked the voltage .I figured it would be well below a volt. That sucker shot up to 2 volts and stayed there for a day and then bottomed out.
