mechanical versus fixed

Ok just getting back to shooting a bow and am not sure which one to use or which brand is the best to use. I am currently using a pse with 70lb and 100 grain muzzy fixed. I know this is not the highend but seems to be ok. So looking for comments on which is the best my bow is older so not as fast as the new ones. So made me think mechanical to get more speed. Is this correct thinking or am i backwards?

You won't pick up speed by switching to a mechanical. Speed differeces btwn fixed and mechanical are nominal.

Just keep them sharp and theres not much difference between the two.

I'm wondering what speed deer prefer to die at. Personally, I've known a bunch of people who were ate up with how fast their bows were. To my knowledge, most of their performance was spent on the range, not in the woods, and it didn't make them better hunters.

Your PSE and 70 lb. pull is far and away enough to consistently and solidly put deer on the ground. All day long.

The difference between mechanicals and fixed blades is that the former fly far more consistently without as much attention to tuning the bow, and will consistently match target tip flight. There are many great mechanical broadhead styles out there that will open every time, put a great blood trail on the ground, and drop a deer quickly and humanely. I switched to mechs years ago, and have not lost a deer with them yet. Currently using Spitfires, and they are excellent!

Pick any head out there out and you can whack a deer. I believe that what ever you shoot believe in it and make a great shot and you will kill the animal. Everyone has their opinion. I like Rage and Slicktricks. Grimreapers are great as well as muzzy and most others. Pick what you like and enjoy.

I really like the 75 grain Muzzys. I know people catch alot of flack when talking about speed. Myself I like a super fast bow for hunting. It takes away alot of the yardage problems with using alot of pins on guessing yardage or using a rangefinder. I'm using a super light speed pro arrow at 5.5 grains per inch at 28.5" long with the 75 grain muzzys. Pulling 63 lbs. shooting 325 fps. I think the faster you push the muzzys the better they fly. As far as mechanical vs. fixed I prefer fixed. Because I don't have to worry weather the blades opened or not. Also I have had complete pass thrus on all the deer I've taken with this set-up.

Id rather be shooting medium speed and get a lot more kinetic energy than that.

Im shootin around 290 fps with a 374 grain arrow. im good to 35 yard with only +-5 inches of POI change

I shoot 100 gr. fixed blade Slick Trick Magnums .
By far the best flying ,strongest , most accurate fixed blade I have shot . I shoot fixed blade heads because I like the improved strength and penetration over mechanical heads .
Rage heads are good mechanical heads , but replacement blades are hard to come by , and they don't hold up as well as Slick Tricks . I have used both and have killed deer with both .
Slick Tricks remain in my quiver .
