This will be my first year hunting and hope to have at least one deer. Can anyone recommend a processor in the Centerville Fairview Dickson area? What can I expect from them and how is their flavoring in sausages? Thanks in advance.

I can't. I grew up there (Hickman Co) and they nearly drove me away from deer hunting and to processing my own. That was several years ago and there may be a better outfit down there now. Seemed like they changed names every 2-3 years. The problem was they are too busy to do as good a job as I do.

If you stick with it, I'd recommend learning how to do your own processing.

Vaughts right there off 100 close to 840. They've been good to me so far. They also do summer sausage, euro mounts etc.

Flowers is expensive and they require next Day pickup.

QUALITY work is seldom the cheapest cost.

Agreed. I have used both and I can't see a difference? I think some of the burger I've got from Vaughts has been some of the best I've had. It also seems like Flowers wasn't doing the cheddar/Jalepeno summer sausage last time I went through there?

Vaughts is really nasty. I carried a $200 order there once for a friend and they cut it wrong, but didn't make it right. I do my own, but if I was going to pay I would use flowers. Just shoot 2-3 and make it worth the trip. Wallace in Waverly maybe a decent option a little closer but that's based on hear say. If your just wanting burger those cheap Walmart grinders will do all you need. I used one for years with no issues other than it's slow compared to my cabelas model.

Took a huge buck to Vaughn's a couple years ago. When I went and picked it up I said something like it's amazing that big deer only made this much. He stuttered a second then said no we have more and went and got more sticks of summer sausage out of the building. My deer was in the outside freezer even. Not in the building.

Yeah with the summer sausage at vaughts you don't get your deer back. They mix it all together and make a batch then divide it based on what weight you contributed was my understanding..... I understand the theory, but no thanks.

That seems to be standard protocol at many processors, same with ground venison. That's one of the reasons I do my own- I don't want my deer cuddling with somebody's gut shot, spoiled mess with a busted bladder and a foot of colon still attached. Or piled up 3 deep when it's 60* in the cooler.

I won't name names since I haven't used one in forever and can't speak to current quality.

What does the procssor not return or use? Other than the skin and bones. I hate for something to be wasted.
