And carry the bow later in the year. Just to try and keep the pressure off them until it gets good. Then again I may not be able to stop the itch and have to go

Tried that last year, worst season ever.

I tried that last year too. I decided to wait till the late part of Oct to hit the stand with my bow in hand. All of the deer that I had on trail cams had changed their normal patterns they had been on before. One major factor of the change, I think, was the fact that more people were heading to the woods to start scouting and looking for new areas. I feel like if I had been hunting harder at the beginning of the season, maybe those bucks wouldn't have had time to change their patterns.

Still had a good year filling the freezer, but the beginning of the year started pretty low.

I do not feel you have to sit the early part of season out entirely to keep the pressure off. Just pick the right times to go, don't go every day, play the wind, and don't get in the same routine. We do have several acres on our property that we never set foot in though and normally only hunt the inside edges of fields or powerlines. Our deer seem to be the most unpressured deer I have ever hunted. We also have areas that are not that "bucky" where we go in to shoot does in early season.

Sounds like an excellent game plan....

Another tactic is find some public land in the area and find some spots on it. Hunt there and not on your private spots.

However what others have said is true. Deer shift patterns, so you will want to lay eyes on your private spots 1-2 times to kinda get a feel for how they are moving, that way you can adjust if necessary for ML.

I just don't hunt my buck spots til November. Worked great last year.
There you have it, some areas cater to Gun hunting while I have some that I can bow hunt and feel good about my chances at a decent buck and not booger it up too bad. Some areas are just not setup to bow hunt and not blow them out!

I have killed more mature since I have quit educating them in bow. I will just hunt squirrels till muzzleloader
