Yes, you read that right. After sitting on stand in freezing temps yet again and seeing no big old bucks, I finally realized it: they're not nocturnal; they're HIBERNATING!!! They bully the young bucks into finding them a cave or digging them a huge burrow. Then they make em stock it with acorns and corn and honeysuckle vines (which also hide the buck- cave entrance from us hunters. So for those of you who, like me, aren't seeing big bucks, the answer is obvious: go subterranean!!! (We'll need lots of shovels.)

It's OK, y'all can thank me later.

I've had not only mature bucks but also all other deer, turkeys and squirrels dip beneath the surface plenty of times. It's those quiet days in the woods you just scratch your head and wonder if the critters are still there. Me and a friend always joke about the big carp and catfish in the creek that disappear from sight during the winter, even with the clear water you can't see a single fish in the deep holes, we say they all die off during the winter and respawn in the spring time.

I know a family of dwarves who run a great guide business this time of year. Stay right booked up. The catch is...you have to use hatchets and war hammers and stuff...you know how dwarves are about those wood elves and their bows...
