Will eventually save up and buy a new (used) bow. I already shoot a single cam bow. Would like to buy a Mathews. Specifically the Switchback XT. Why should or shouldn't I buy it? Is there something better for the money or is it a good choice? Just looking for opinions.

Best bow Matthews ever made in my opinion . And I don't like Matthews bows . But if I got another one it would be a switchback for sure .

As said a lot of people think it's the best bow Mathews made & you will be getting a quality bow. So if that what you want go for it. However, there are some disadvantages I guess you would say, or downside to buying one. When you find one, you will pay for it. It won't be like a buying another brand bow that old. Also, you won't have a warranty. So if your limbs break or something a week after you get it there you are. Myself, before I would pay what you will have to for a sbxt, I would buy a new Mission by Mathews. You won't get there top model for it but you should be able to get a new bow with a warranty for what you will pay for a sbxt.

You will pay for it for sure. But as TheAirMan said, you will be at risk of buying a bow that is several yrs old. Most people wouldn't have taken the time to grease the limb bolts, etc. You don't know what you are really buying either...what if they dry fired it, or done this or that to it? It could have warped axles, it could have bad bearings. There are a lot of things that it could have wrong with it. And you might luck up into a really good one. But you just don't know. I don't mind buying used bows IF they are still in production. But I wont buy one that's no longer in production and especially if it hasn't been in several years.

I would not be afraid to buy used if in good shape.. You can usually look at one and tell... Most bows are carried way more than they are shot. Some just sit in the house... I good quality used bow is a much better investment than a new bow IMO... Buying a new bow is a losing proposition, bought like buying a new car. They lose value very fast..

To me it depends on the situation. If you were talking about buying a 2 year old z7extreme to a new Creed, I would probably agree. However, the sbxt is an old bow now. Bow companies have come a long way since then. I personally can't see any advantage in paying what a person would have to for a sbxt when they could get a new bow with a warranty for the same amour of money.

I'd say go for it if you plan on doing some work to it. It will be out of warranty which is kinda of a big deal. Otherwise shoot as many different bows as possible and buy from a bow shop that can set it up for you.

if I were going to buy a Matthews that one would be about the only one I would own. but I would look at buying a new bow, for a few reasons yes they are higher but you know what you are buying, two you can let the bow choose you not you choosing the bow. three that is a pretty old bow. 4 if you are going to look at used bows there are several on this site and on archery talk much newer and imo better bows for very good reasonable prices. I would stray away from buying a 6 year old used bow. also you can get a very good new bow for around the same price as a used switch back. but by all means that's just me if your dead set on it go for it. check it over good and take it to a pro shop or someone that knows what they are doing get it tuned and back in spec. and I think you'll be good just check it over good.

I would give that honor to the zmax. still hunting with mine after 15 years. if I bought another Mathews, it would be a DXT.

Once you get the Switchback let us know how it works out. I still own a Q2 from 2002. Just can't seem to talk myself into getting anything else at the moment. It shoots where I aim and the deer die everytime I aim at the right spot. User error is my bows downfall :)

Better is subjective & only you can really decide if you think one is better. I would look at the Mission Venture & Hoyt Charger for starters. That's just my opinion as said before if you are set on a sbxt go for it.

The new hoyt ignite has been sold alot since they came out .... But my honest opinion is the new PSE Drive LT is the best budget bow for the money of 14 . And I'm not a PSE guy . I shot all the 2014 PSE bows including the proline bows , and the drive LT was my favorite shooting bow out of all of them . The hoyt charger is also a good bow . So many bows in that price range .. Also of I still have the CRX32's for sale when your ready that would also be a good deal . Brand new still in the box .

Let me add this... I wouldn't pay more than $175 for a sbxt....and it would have to be in very good condition..I wouldn't even give close to a new price for any used bow, the bow shop won't....... Accessories usually determine if the price is good or not. Used older model bare bow not worth much....

For a long time but when you get ready for a different bow @fulldraw has a very nice Martin setup with very good accessories, you should pm him about it.. I was very impressed with it. He takes exceptionally good care of his equipment.

absolutely I was dead set on a few different bows before I got mine and I knew as soon as I shot it that it was the one for me. also another thing I know you bow hunt a lot so think as it as an investment you could/will use the bow you purchase for a very long time so imo I wouldn't go the real cheap route get the one that you really like and you may be hunting with it for years and years.

If anyone is interested in a great deal on new or used bow call Sportsmans Headquarters in Owensboro KY... The best place in western Ky to get new or used archery equipment.....Tracy has owned and ran it as long as I can remember, great guy to deal with.... He will shoot you straight.

Yeah.. if you can buy switchback xts for $175 you should buy all you can find.. they sell for a lot more than that..... Heck there is one on eBay right now just rest on it that is $345 with 23 bids and 3 days left... Sell around that on Archerytalk too..

Things generally bring a little more on Internet sites and eBay.. I am referring to what most archery shops in this area buy and sell them for.. Heck some shops won't even take some older bows in on trade..buddy off be picked up a like new loaded DXT when they were like 2yrs old for $400..
Another buddy of mine picked up a legacy loaded for $200 last yr...
Lots of people buy into the hype of these new bows, me included, when actually when it comes to killing deer the new ones aren't any better than a 10yr old one.
Most used bows are just barely used... Both of these above mentioned used bows were bought at Sportsmans Headquarters in Owensboro. If these prices seem unrealistic just call and see what he has and check prices.

That's what I would do.

I was dead set on a Mathews Creed last year. The day I went in to buy a Creed I shot the Hoyt Spyder 30...I walked out with the Hoyt.

I still have my MQ1 from 2000, have restrung it every 3 yrs still smooth as silk. Think its a keeper

Just keep an open mind. You can find a lot newer used bows for the same price you'll pay for that Switchback if you find one. Heck, I picked up a 2012 PSE Evo on Archerytalk the other day for $400 and it's in pristine condition.

I've owned a mile long list of Mathews bows over the last 10 years, I love my new chill! I owned 2 switchback xt's and I really liked them!! Every single one of my Mathews would drive tacks at 70 yards!
