Saw the Masterbuilt 30" smoker at Sams the other day with bluetooth and programmable digital temp control (electric).

I want to start making sausages and smoking them this season and wondered if the 30" model would be big enough to smoke a good 20# batch of kilbasa/andouille etc... (link sausage) or should I save up for the 40" ?

Of course if its programmable, doing multiple batches would be MUCH easier than the UDS I have been using..... Hmmmm.

Anybody make sausage and smoke it want to chime in?

I had a MB 30", but not the Bluetooth control. You would need to rig up some brackets you could hang your sausage on. Otherwise I wanna say the most I could smoke on the racks was 10lbs or so. Slow going.

I will say this-and it's just from my personal experience so take it for what it's worth-my next one will have a separate/cold smoker. My MB was basically an oven as it held heat so long the thermostat wouldn't kick the element on frequently enough to consistently generate smoke. This especially made attempts at smoking sausages frustrating as the main goal is smoking at low temps.

I have the amaZin smoker for cold smoking. Ill just put it in the bottom of whatever smoker I buy for cold smoking and leave the element off.

So ..... does the masterbuilt require the sawdust or pellets since it is so well insulated? I have tons of oak chunks, cherry, hickory and pear but its all bigger stuff. that would suck if I had to buy pellets or sawdust to use the smoke anything.

Dang.... I really like the programmable feature and the 30 is in my budget, the 40 is not. ..... hmmmmm what to do...

Hang two levels of verticle rods. Tie your sausage links off and hang them. I bet you'd get plenty in there.

Thanks TX !
Ill probably go with the 30". I really want the programmable model and the 40 is too pricey and hard to justify since I mostly cook for 2 people. The once a year or so I want to cook a big bunch of stuff I can use my UDS. Some of the sausage recipes have multiple cooking temps for different amounts of time. Sure would be nice to program that in and walk away.

The 30 will work but just thought the 40 is much bigger. U can use chips or the amazin pellet holder from amazon and use pellets. half tray of pellets one time will get u about 4-5 hours without a reload. I LOVE MY MB!!!

Thanks Forvols! I have been slacking but will be checking that one out !

No problem. Also I just went to the SAMs website they have the 40in masterbuilt with Bluetooth and glass door for 329.00 and free shipping, but you would pay tax. Me personally I like the Cableas branded one for the same price but no glass door to clean free shipping and no tax.

I was at sams the other day and they had the 30" bluetooth with glass door for $329 in stock. Didn't have the 40" at all in the cookeville store.
I would have been bummed if I paid for the 30"then found out I could get the 40 for the same price.

Thanks again Forvols. Ordered the cabelas 40" with bluetoof. Looking forward to cooking up some treats on that thing soon!

Couple months ago Lowes had the 40 inch no window or Bluetooth for $189 on clearance
