martin box for coons?

Coons have attacked the coop again. I was thinking that a martin box sized for a 220 and put in a tree high enough that the dogs couldn't mess with it might be the ticket. Between the dogs and farm critters, foot holds and DP traps are not a good idea.
Anybody ever try something like that?
 
Some people use those square kitty litter type buckets with a 220 in it. Dps with a pull only trigger should be ok around your animals.
 
I've never had an incidental catch with a dp and it's hard to beat that trap for coons. I've caught them in conibears and live traps plenty but the dp is the coon king and likely one of best traps ever made. Bridger T3 and Duke are my favorites.

Over the years I have caught non target species in almost all kinds of traps. Thats why a situation where non targets CANT get into the trap is desired. A coon cubby set placed 6-8' in a tree would keep all non targets other than squirrels out of the trap and I could leave it set until the coon comes back and gets caught.
For the other traps, they have to be reset every evening after dark, then tripped before the chicken door opens in the morning. The LGD has the run of the place 24-7 so she could get into or trip the traps at night.

Im assuming LGD is a livestock guardian dog,
If your having coon problems the problem is your LGD. We had several LG dogs when we had goats. Nothing comes into the lot at night and walks away. Picked up many dead coons in the mornings.
 
YES! Our LGD IS a problem. LOL. She is old and has decided that she is now a retired house dog and will be sleeping in the house until it cools off.
