Marlin 336 problem

I have a .35 marlin 336 that isn't cycling spent casings correctly… I can load it full and work the lever however I want and it does what it's supposed too… as soon as I pull the trigger though, if I work the lever normally it doesn't pull the shot cartridge out of the chamber completely and causes a jam… I've fiddled with it enough to know that I can really baby the lever and it'll cycle properly. Something is off and I'm betting it's a simple fix… any ideas?

Also 1 of the biggest problems are loose screws, go over every 1 of them and ck before you spend $$

Sounds like the extractor is worn. If so, that's an easy fix.

I'm actually strongly considering selling it, but not until it's functioning properly

The fact that it will extract an unfired cartridge but not a fired one tells me something. It sounds as though there is an issue with rust, dirt or crud in the chamber causing the fired shell to stick. But since it pulls it part way out I think it could be that plus a weak extractor. I would scrub the chamber and do a good job of it first. I would also inspect the extractor for tension and a good hook on the right hand side.

Sounds like a rusty chamber. Check it before you head off to the gunsmith.

Get rid of that rifle and buy yourself something else.
Those rifles are pieces, there's much better ones available.

It's basically new, zero rust

I know this is an old thread, but have you inspected the spent cases for scratches? Are you shooting factory loads?
