marlin 30a w 30/30 question

guy has one thats brand new never been shot and said he never took it out of the box to clean it from factory. Can someone help me out with details on this gun? done teh google search just wanted to see what you guys think about them? He's wanting to sell it and made me a pretty good offer (I think).Any one with experience with these?

The Marlin Model 30A (a Glenfield version of the Model 336) was made from 1973 to 1983. There were 268,905 of the Model 30A's made during the production run. If the serial number is not preceded by a letter, subtract the 1st two digits from 100 to learn the year. I've seen some model 30A's go for about $400.00 at auction (in used condition) lately (within the last couple of years). Since the fall of 2008, new guns have gotten harder to find. Good used guns had all but disappeared.

I have a Glenfield model 30A. It has pressed checkering and oak leaves with a deer head on the grip. It was my first deer rifle.

thanks guys, it does seem funny to have a handle like mine and not know about these. But honestly I never heard about a 30aw till yesterday. I've read alot on marlins and love them. When he told me about it i thought he was looking at something wrong.His dad bought it new for him for christmas from a local gun shop and he brought it to me to look over this weekend in the same box it came in,never been fired . the only difference from a 336 i can see is that the stock and forearms are just plain wood. I did read on google that the 30aw was made for walmart but never confirmed it. He's only asking 300.00 and from the info you all have given me and what I've seen on the internet seems like a fair price to me. I guess I need to read some more on marlins but thanks for the info
