I've got one and haven't had it out in probly 2 years.Ever since I got my 30-06,I haven't hunted with it.I took the old scope off of it and put an el cheapo simmions on it and haven't even sighted it in.I am going to this week and recheck zero on my 30-06.I told myself that I would hunt with it this year, but I don't know about opening morning though.I think the ol 06 has that spot filled already!LOL

I WILL BE IN TEXAS OPENING WEEKEND BUT WHEN I GET BACK I WILL BE IN THE WOODS WITH MY BOW BUT I ALWAYS CARRY MY MARLIN 30-30 WITH ME...MY WIFE BOUGHT IT FOR ME FOR OUR FIRST ANNV. DAMN WHAT A WOMAN...THAT WAS 14 YEARS AGO AND IT STILL GOES WITH ME TO THE WOODS WITH MY BOW...BECAUSE I BOW HUNT IRON SIGHTS ARE A MUST...GOOD LUCK...

What made you change to the 06?

I won't be using a Marlin, But I will be in the woods with my trusty old Winchester 94 fitted with a Lyman Receiver mounted peep sight. I went back to this setup years ago and just love the simplicity and just how well it still kills deer. I't a pre-64 that I've had for years. Anything within 150 yrds is "In the Skillet" It's kind of an opening day tradition, then it's back to the ole Omega.

Nothing in paticular, just that I got it for x-mas a few years ago a Remington 700 with a beautiful wood stock and have just fallen in love with it.The 06 won't do nothing the 30-30 won't do with in its own range!I just like the feel of the Rem 700 and the stock thats on it,it just feels right.

If I get it ready in time, I will be using a marlin 336 in 35 remington lever action. This gun is right out of my grandfathers safe, which made its way to my dads and now its mine. It did not have a scope on it (so i got one on the way). I did not know much about this rifle or caliber but have done some research and learned that is quite the deer rifle at moderate ranges! So needles to say, I am pumped to be hunting with family tradition!

Maybe not opening morning but soon thereafter marlin 30-30 from then on. At least on my Mid TN areas with 100 yard and less shots. Got a 30-06 that is being reserved for possible out west hunt in the future.

I could kick myself for selling a Marlin 336 several years ago for $100 with a Tasco 3-9X40 nestled in Leupold STD rings and STD base! Threads like this remind me what an IDIOT I am at times ;)

I've got a very old Marlin 30-30, it's got an ancient Simmons fixed 6X scope on it. For where I hunt I use my .300 win mag though. I let my nephiews use the 30-30 now.

mpruitt62,
I sold it to a dear friend! I would have given it to him but he was a proud man who loved that rifle. Not having much in worldly posessions or money I offered him a good price. Now $100 might not be much to you or me...but at that time it allowed my friend to keep his pride. He still considers me his friend and leaves fresh killed game on my front porch at least three times a year...sometimes if you give something away...you pee in the face of the recepient!

First deer rifle I bought was a 30-30 win 94 Classic. Still have it in the safe. It has just been fitted with a straight 4x but I didn't get it sited in in time to hunt with this year.

I have had this one since about 1975 it still looks almost new except for a couple of small scratches on the stock from many years ago.
