Mangy Critters

This time of year and later, I can tell when the predators and deer start switching over to their summer coats, but this is a little different. The first two images are of a red fox, the rest are of a coyote. All these came from my back yard in urban Nashville.

The powers that be tell me they both have demodectic mange, a condition very common in stressed populations of mammals. Wikipedia says, �Most dogs are immune to demodectic mange, but dogs with compromised immune systems and the elderly are at a higher risk. It is not contagious to humans.�

Although I wouldn't know what I was doing, I have considered trying. But I think there are too many loose pets in this hood to really run traps. I get tons of pics. of dogs and cats with collars.

The coyote definitely has mange but the fox looks like he might just be scraping the hair off his back by going under fences or buildings or something.

Thanks, Wes. Those pics. were taken with a Sony s600, six megapixels. I've got Fireman Jim retrofitting a couple of my old Sony p41 units with Sony H70s, 16 megapixels. They are cheap and easy to find on eBay. We'll see how it turns out.

Maybe, maybe not. Supposedly, the flash is terrible, but that's actually a plus for my pictures. I want the dimmest flash possible for pics. within a couple feet. But I have heard these cameras sometimes have problems with autofocus. If true, the build will be worthless. But FiremanJim says that shouldn't be a problem.
