Wife is leaving town this weekend to go home and celebrate her birthday with her family. I'm sad I can't go, but I have to study all weekend and she decided on this plan to leave me free of inlaws here in town and able to focus.

Friday I am smoking some ribs with friends and blowing off a little steam.

Saturday and Sunday will be mixed between studying and working in the garden and cooking. I can only work for 1-2 hrs a time on this stuff so I need distration.

Trying to decide on my menu currently.

I'm thinking some indirect heat grilled/smoked wood ducks, a venison shepards pie, and...not sure on third meal

maybe some type of fish dish (I have catfish, salmon, halibut, cod) or jambalya/gumbo made with duck stock... unsure on what all meat to use here. I have a few ducks but no squirrel and I guess I'll have to buy some shrimp if I go this way.

What do you think for the final meal?

Breakfast will be strap and eggs (thanks for the idea Poser)

Forget the whiskey, go with this bourbon, "E. H. Taylor Warehouse C Tornado Surviving". I have not tried it yet, but it's next on the list, unless I get lucky and find a bottle of Pappy somewhere (not likely).

Sounds like a good weekend planned.

Now, to the important question: What kind of Whiskey you drinkin'?

You'll be happy. Bought a bottle of wild turkey rare breed last week for derby...didn't get into due to a buddy diving into my blantons so it is on the hit list.

I do have some skinless breasts and love left overs. Fish tacos with red cabbage and onions is another option.

Well boys, here is how it went...

Friday night I went to a buddies and he smoked ribs. They weren't much count buy my cornbread and smoked white beans with bacon was spot on. I got over served so no pictures.

Saturday I made some gumbo with duck. It ain't gumbo if you don't have okra in it. I don't say this about my cooking but it could have used some more heat. I was focused on the roux and duck prep. Some hot sauce from the fridge and I didn't starve...

Next night it was c.enison shepards pie. Paprika and cheese to top the mashed taters.

Tonight I cooked up two wood ducks on indirect heat with some apple chips.

All in all not bad and the wild turkey rare breed was great but getting a little low....
