Persimmons.

I have several persimmon trees and all of them produce fruit every year. The fruit size varies in size from a dime to a nickel on average.

Last Friday, I found a new tree that I didn't know exsisted. The fruit on it is the size of golfballs! The entire tree is loaded with them.

Has anyone ever saw such persimmons?

That is a quarter in the pic.

I found 6 different trees all dropping fruit atleast that big over the weekend. That size is common in West TN.

Ours in south middle TN are much smaller. Still pretty hard as of this past weekend, but when ripe the deer will be all over them.

Mine are all that size. I have to admit that last weekend I stole a bunch from the deer for myself! I figure with all the acorns available they can spare a few.

those look average for persimmons I've seen....never seen small ones like you described. Japanese persimmons are much larger.

Anyone know if the deer actually prefer the japanese persimmons, they don't taste like persimmon to me. If the deer munch them good, I will scarf up a bunch of seeds from a neighborhood tree and see what sprouts.

I just checked my neighbors mature persimmon tree and they are the really small type--smaller than a quarter. But the deer sure are pounding them!
