What's the ballpark cost of an m1 garand in average condition. I'm at work and can't access gun trading websites. Thanks.
 
Look around and you will see them for $600-$900 on average. There are some that fetch quite a bit more but the average CMP gun goes for around $750.
 
Got my Service Grade Springfield over the summer from CMP. Came with one of the new stocks. Serial number on receiver dates to 1955 and the barrel is also dated 1955 so I am pretty sure it is original. MW was 1 and TE was 2 so it was hardly used. Gun looks to me like it was just issued. Traded around some of the mismatched parts and got all correct SA numbered parts for it. Cost to my door was $630.00. Only way to go.

a little later on I am gonna take my SOCOM 16 with the ghost ring and Trijicon site and kill a deer with it,,

Guy came walking out of the woods yesterday with one. A CMP Special Grade. I would call him crazy. Cant imagine the thought of lugging it through the woods or taking a chance on damaging it.

I knew a guy once that was a captain at the old state prison located in West Nashville . He hunted with nothing but his old M1 Garand 30/06 and killed a few deer with it. I hunted with my old 03 Springfield and my old Garand but mine were old rifles the 03 from closed Castle heights academy and the Garand 30/06 was a blue sky one brought back from Korea so she had a lot of dings in the stock .
 
For about the last 10 years my M1 is about all I've used. My longest shot was 75 yards and the closest about 10. I killed my biggest buck with it. The only thing is that front sight covers about 4 inches at 100 yards and will completly cover an 8 inch circle at 250.
