Lucky Buck

Well first the good from this morning. Was hunting a food plot I call the salad bar because it has a little bit of everything in it and the deer use it religiously. Saw a ton of deer from first light until about 9:30, most of which were does except for a really nice 8 pt. I rattled this buck in to the plot at around 7, he then stood facing toward my stand for another 20 minutes before he finally turned giving me the shot I wanted. Crosshairs right behind his shoulder I pulled the trigger and all I got was the pop of my primer going off. Surprisingly he just turned and trotted up a hill to my left about 50 yards. I actually thought he was going to walk around the hill and give me a second chance, but he walked straight away over the hill. No idea what went wrong, my only guess is bad powder or maybe their was some left over residue from cleaning on Thursday. Either way it about made me sick, this was a buck I've got a ton of pictures of going back to July. My best guess is that he's 3.5 maybe 4.5 years old, was just out past his ears but really tall. Last season I had a bad primer that wouldn't fire but luckily the doe that 9pt was chasing doubled back and gave me a second chance that was a success. Great morning but very sickening/frustrating at the same time.

All joking aside, was you gun loaded? I have heard of people forgetting to load their gun or only loading the bullet/sabot (no powder).

I know a guy who forgot to put a bullet and powder in his MZ and tried to shoot a small buck with it. In spite of it not sounding right and the lack of smoke, it took him a few minutes to figure out what happened. He posts on here as TNCharlie.

Ha that's definitely something I could see me doing. But I did have it loaded. When I got back to the house I shot it again and it delayed fired. I don't know I'm guessing powder maybe. It's a couple years old but has been stored in gun safe.

I pulled the trigger on one at 35 yards yes morn. looked perfect, found 15 small hairs, ran up hill no blood.. totally shocked and no idea what happened. Last year three shots, three dropped deer.

I should of shot an actual round through it. I shot two primers through it thursday after I cleaned it. I thought that would get rid of any left over residue and dirty it up a bit. Oh well if you haven't had some bad luck hunting then your not hunting enough. Hoping since he just kind of trotted off and then stood around for a while that he will come back around.
