Low Poundage Broadhead

Looking to get my little cousin his first archery deer. He is pulling 50lbs tops, what broad head should I buy for him. I know to stay away from mechanicals with low poundage bows. I shoot 100 gr Ramcats, would that suffice?

there are plenty of choices out there. The best advice I can give you is to stay with fixed blade and get a cut on contact head or something close to it. I like the Strikers from G5 or slicktricks. My wife shoots 40lbs off her Bowtech Equalizer and she uses an 85gr Striker. She gets a pass through more times than not when her shot is well placed. Its a good preforming head.

G5 Strikers, Slick Tricks or Magnus heads would be my only recommendation for the application.

50lbs is plenty for most mechanical broadheads that i know of. I know its plenty for the Nap Killzone. But if he new to bow hunting then start with fixed head. All the above mentioned are good. Slick Trick and Thunderheads are great and wont break the bank.

I was gonna post a thread just like this today about my gfs mission bow its prolly 30-40 lbs at best maybe lighter....my thought it needed heavier broadhead for added penetration. Is this incorrect line of thinking?

50# will generate plenty enough kinetic energy for whitetail hunting. Personally I prefer the smaller profile fixed blades like Slick tricks. Short, steel body with a chisel tip. 50 pounds should blow this style bhead thru most deer, granted good shot placement of course. MAXIUM penetration in ANY set up will com from classic 2 blade cut on contact style is the best design. Good shootin'.

Magnus Stingers would probably be great. I haven't used em yet, but know people who do and they are awesome. However....

I use Thunderheads and broke a doe's front leg clean in two, and still made an exit hole with a 100 grain Thunderhead at 59 pounds pull on a 19 yard shot. The Thunderheads haven't always made the biggest blood trails, but at 3 blades they cut more tissue than a 2 blade Magnus would, and they blow through muscle, bone and vitals and still manage to pass through almost every time.

Slick tricks will work just fine my girlfriend shot a buck today with her Mathews jewel she is only pulling 45lb and she made a 40yrd shot with a almost pass threw.
