friend of mine has one of the F class 6.5-284 with 30 inch bbl that drives nails at way out there..

seems Savage is the only ones makin rifles chambered and twisted to what you really need to shoot long range without shooting a 338 Lapua,,

they make 9 twist 22-250s,7 twist 223,6mmBR Norma,,6.5 284,

they are makin rifles the way you would have to custom build a Rem..
 
Just take a remington action you already have and build what you want. $1000 will get you very close if you already have the action, and you can have it your way.

Savages will shoot, but they would need a starvation diet and a good plastic surgeon to live at my house. I have 1 that my dad gave me for my 11th birthday, but if it had not come from him it would have been banished long ago.

Could not have said it better myself, and for a grand it can be done the custom route and finished in an 8 pound rifle
 
I suggest You give the shoulder time to heal and get off the pain meds before you go to spending money on a Savage.
 
The new Savages are winning shoots all over the place in factory class. My dealer and all his benchrest buddies shoot them. I own 2 700's. My next build may use a Savage action. Floating bolthead...action does not have to be trued to drive tacks.
 
Oh no, the savage infection is spreading. The "brotherhood of the barrel nut" must be stopped
 
All of the Savages I have owned have been tack drivers. I bought my son a model 11 in 223 last year with the accustock and accutrigger and it will shoot 1/4" , 3 shot groups at 100 yards with Federal factory ammo. They may not be very pretty but they will shoot and when I'm hunting I'm not in a beauty contest.
 
Mr big, you may want to look at the ruger hawkeye or m77 mk2. You can find both in the creedmore and they are lighter, less tactical looking, and have real walnut stocks. They can actually be had for about 4 bills less that a plastic savage and are much easier on the eye and have a true control round feed action.
 
Not to start a Ford vs. Chevy arguement here but I'd rather have a Savage just for the action rather than have a Ruger with a sloppy action. Slap a Mcmillan or a Manners on the Savage and have yourself a 1/2 MOA or better gun. I like fiberglass stocks better anyway.
 
i agree. i do not like ruger actions. in fact the savage and the ruger action are too rough and course for me. i am used to my kimber, pre64 model 70 and cz's all of which are silky smooth. but the ruger is much more eye appealing and i know mr.big likes quality guns, not low end guns.i am sure the savage can shoot well, but most guns do any more. but you cant fix ugly and heavy.
 
maybe I can stand it long enough to save enough to get the DPMS in same caliber..


this wont be for a hunting rifle,,for it`s use it will have to be heavy,,I dont really care what it looks like for this application,,but it does need to be user friendly with the ability to put rounds downrange accurately even if it is HOT
 
I don't see what everyone has got against savage. I love mine!
Model 10 with the accutrigger in 243 with some elcheapo 100 gr federals or core-lokts from walmart will dang near put them in the same hole at 100 yards.
Sure it ain't the purdiest rifle out there but the deer don't know it.
 
Mr. Big you won't go wrong with the Savage you are looking at. I'm gonna get the Model 10 Max 1 in .260 myself and drop it in a Manners.
 
for a production rifle you cant beat it. that rifle has the same action as the target series. i cant afford a BAT right now so i am going to have to use a savage target action for my BR rifle.

if you are used to an m700 you wont like a savage, unless you send it to fred for timing and truing.

For some people a gun is just a tool to get a job done, for others, they are much more. If it is just a tool a savage is fine. If you like quality craftsmanship, elegance, balance, smoothness and appearance, then a savage is not going to appeal to you. Black plastic, cheap blueing and barrel nuts don't make for a classic firearm in the books of many, myself included. But they are cheap, accurate and functional.

For some people a gun is just a tool to get a job done, for others, they are much more. If it is just a tool a savage is fine. If you like quality craftsmanship, elegance, balance, smoothness and appearance, then a savage is not going to appeal to you. Black plastic, cheap blueing and barrel nuts don't make for a classic firearm in the books of many, myself included. But they are cheap, accurate and functional.
 
I would go with the ruger target model. I love my hawkeye 22-250 .5 moa shooter and a great trigger with just a spring change.

those are two ugly guns. here is my idea of what a gun should look like. it is a kimber as well. 5lbs 12 oz without scope.

Oh I know what your saying! I love the kimbers and brownings ect... I was simply trying to say that for a out of the box rifle i don't think you can beat savage for accuracy, function, and reliability.
I love the nice wood guns but when I am out in the woods beating my way through a briar thicket or slip and fall and scratch the stock I would much rather it be on my old plastic, barrel nut savage than a kimber. ;) just my 2 cents. Everybody is different though.
