Loose powder question ?

Why do companies claim pellets burn faster and hotter than some loose powder . Wouldn't the whole surface to mass ratio make loose powder burn faster ? Just a chemistry type question . I shoot pellets just because it's easier , and the type of hunting I do it gives me enough accuracy . Just wondering about some of the chemistry of it all .
 
the guys out west have proven that loose powder burns faster, they have conducted may tests in black powder cartridges, the true black powder prevails with them

depending on the brand and granulation they will vary their compression, Swiss brand requires vary little compression if any, I do not compress my Swiss 1.5 Black Powder

other brands might be compressed as much as 0.3 tenths of an inch

a solid 50 grain pellet will burn slower than a 50 grain pellet with the hole in the center

I think this is their claim. If you compress loose black powder to the same density as the pellets, the pellets will burn faster because of the hole through the center. But if you were to light 50 gr. of 'loose' loose powder and a 50 gr. pellet the loose powder would burn faster.
 
Here's another kink in the equation. I weighed several charges of t7 from a 50 grain volumetric measure. The average weight was nearly 37 grains. I then weighed several "50 gr" t7 pellets and got an average weight of about 30 grains. Now in my estimation thats a big difference for something that's suppose to be the same charge....Go figure.

777 pellets will be lighter to compensate for 777 being 20% hotter powder the way you measured them. 50 grains of loose 777 is hotter than compared to 50 grains of pyrodex.
