With the tropical system in the gulf and a front moving in, it looks like we may get some much needed rain early next week. I am planting my plots this weekend so this is good news.
 
I still have not sprayed. Think I am going to spray tomorrow and no till next weekend. Hoping the rain will come and soften the ground. I do not think I could get the drill in the ground right now even if I wanted to!

That all depends on the track. The heavy rain could be over west TN or east of the Cumberland Plateau.
 
Based on the latest track and the updates to the middle tennessee forecast, I think we anticipate some decent rain starting sunday night and into the following week.

Its a gamble, but if the seeds aren't on/in the ground, there is a 100% proability that nothing is sure to grow.

Take those forecasts with a HUGE grain of salt. They have no idea where this tropical system will go. It could track anywhere from NW to due E of its current position. We could get flooding rains or absolutely nothing.

We have disked some and the ground is bone dry and the plants are deader than a hammer.
 
Im With BSK on this one, we are going tomorow to hit the fields with a disk, and get some fertilizer in the ground, and maybe, just maybe put some turnips and rape in the ground, but were waiting on the rest ! We need a good soaking anyways to add moisture to the ground, andas dry as it is right now the moisture won't last long! I tend to go with what the farmers say, and my father and grandfather has been farming all there lives, and from there advice today from talking to them they suggested for us to wait, Ive been burnt not listening to them before, and it won't happen again !
I think most of us as deer hunters want that perfect plot by opening day, BUT I tend to plant plots more for the deer than to hunt over anyways, And there's still plenty of time to plant ! We usually shoot for the 3rd week in September, and have had much better luck in this area.
Just my 2 cents !
 
I would feel confident with planting east of Nashville. But with the unknown destination of Lee, I'm not sure I would risk the seed west of Nashville, especially west of KY Lake.
 
Think I'm going to hold off on planting the remainder of my plots until next weekend. The weather forecast has been revised in the last few hours and now it's calling for heavy rain beginning tomorrow in my area (Franklin/Grundy Counties). Heavy rain to continue for several days. Most of my plots will be conventional till, so I worry about planting seed on bare ground followed by heavy rain. Too much of a chance of losing expensive seed.

Just bought 15 more bales of straw and 300' of gutter pipe for the new house. Invested way too much time and money to let all my expensive seed and topsoil wash down the hill! :grin: Guess I'll head out this afternoon once it cools down and finish up work around the house.
 
Got my plot disc'ed, fertilized, limed, and seed sown today! Even got a little rain this evening. Pray the Lord will send a little more rain our way tomorrow and Monday!

Its going to be close. I am putting some wheat, turnips, and rape down tomorrow and then will over seed later with some rye if needed. I wasn't able to get all the seed i needed for this weekend, so this is the plan for now.
 
I went all in. My plot was already tilled and fertilized. Spread seed saturday, then also overseeded an existing clover portion on monday in the rain.

The rain began Sunday afternoon and has been a steady soaker, but no huge down pours. I'd like to see the temps come up abit for quicker germination, but i'll take moisture.

Should be the best plot since Katrina.
