Yesterday evening at dusk I heard the neighbors hounds barking . Looked out and saw a small pack of coyotes. I grabbed my 30-30 and walked outside they were about 250+ yards away and we're charging my neighbors puppy as it was barking 50 yards from them . I sneak to about 150 yards free handed and shot once . Saw them bolt off towards the other neighbors cow pasture ... figured I missed walked to were they were no sign of a hit walked back inside disappointed. Well about 9 this morning I headed out to do some drills with my Chesapeake as u usually do . After training I noticed 3 buzzards flying and one landed about 150 yards in the direction they ran last night . I said what are the odds of that so I start walking and sure enough my dog picks up the blood trail and I look up to see the buzzard fly off of my dead coyote. It's my first with my 3030 and farthest shot at about 150 yards free handed . There was hardly any blood and the shot was a little low . My dog is 65 pounds and the coyote looked a bit bigger . Iv trained her to work blood and sheds and she did excellent today picking up tiny specks the size of a pen .

What bullet? Was it one of those lever revolution rounds? I shoot them out of my 30-30 but have never stretched them out yet.

Awesome shot, I still have yet to kill one. I did make a shot pushing 100 with the 30-30 this evening and ran thru the lungs and heart of a big doe..only second shot I have made that far. I love that gun it is awesome. Congrats on the yote

I shoot the remington core loks 150 grain . I will never shoot the lever revolution rounds. I shot a buck on thanksgiving in 2007 at 75 yards with it and was the first and only deer I lost with the 3030 . The next morning out of same stand I shot a nice 9 pt at 30 yards . Put 2 heart shots in him and he ran 40 yards and died on the field . Got down wasn't a drop of blood . Only found him cause I saw him go down . Tracked the deer the day before for about a hundred yards on my hands and knees . Blood didn't start till about 80 yards after the shot .

Hmmmm. I've killed plenty with the core loks, but only a few with the hornadys. Never had that problem thankfully. I'll had to look into that.

Good shooting.I sighted my 30-30 in at 100 yards with the Hornadys and then shot it at 150 yards and it was only 4 inches low but I have not shot a deer with it.

When I hunted with the .30-30, I used Win. 150 gr. factory loads first and later used 150 gr. Speer and Sierra handloads. All of them seemed to work good. A lot of hunters like the 170 gr. loads.
