Long Distance Practice

Who flings arrows long range? I just got done shooting 80 yards and it's a blast!

I shoot to 60. It's about the farthest I can get here in yard. It is fun & makes the closer shots seem easier. Plus I like watching the arrow drop in on the target lol

I typically start my practice sessions at 60 yards and work my way in to 20. For giggles i do stretch it out in my backyard and take a shot or two, every now and then, up to 120yds.

been starting at 40 moving up to 25 then finishing at 50 which is as much room as I have pretty cool tracking flight at 50.this is my third year shooting and bowhunting the long distance work seems to make my 35yd and in groups way tighter that's my comfortable max hunting yardage,so I like the long distane practice

We shoot at 100 yards quite a bit at the club . I shoot quite a bit at 80 yards , that is the farthest yardage for our field course . It definitely will show your flaws at that distance .

Shoot out to 100 all the time and when you step up to 50, the target looks like a ups truck. I got an elk hunt in about two months so I been at it hard.

Shoot out to about 65 yards mostly, thats as far as I can get here in the yard. Love it when I can get some where to stretch it out. Lots of fun and makes 40 yards in a chip shot

I can shoot very long distance here at the house but I seldom do though. Some of the local shoots will have novelty shoots where you can win prizes or money for shooting long distance, so it's always a good idea to have a pin or yardage marking for 80-100 yards on there...just in case you want to try for one of the prizes. I won $140 some odd dollars last yr at a shoot on one of these types of games, long dot shooting @ 100 yds.

If I shoot at longer distances a lot, I've noticed it sort of hurts my short yardage game. I get over confident thinking they are chip shots if they are closer than where I've been shooting from the most. I shot a 3D shoot Saturday in Known 45 class and was drilling 12 rings at the longer distances from 40-46 yards...but had four 8s that I shot...and all 4 of them were on short distance targets. Go figure.

Im not %100 sure yet, I know 125s for sure. I may end up with Crow's favorite ol' 2 blade rage. All my friends use 100 grain 2 blade rages and 350 blue streaks, which is what I shot anyway. They said they have never had an arrow not pass through. Il keep you posted. Oh Yea and Happy Birthday!!!!

don't know the exact distance but I shot one over the trees when my loop broke at full draw - used to have a bad habit about pointing bow up when drawing- needless to say I learned not to - so, however far you can shoot a 70lb draw pse pointing upwards is as far as I've shot - hope its not in a rooftop somewhere - other than that - 60 yards

Another good thing with the longer shots it you have plenty enough arrow flight time to see if your arrow is flying straight or thus needs further adjustments.

Never shot more than 40. My bow isnt fast enough to shoot at that distance. And i have my single pin set dead on at 24yrds so i dnt like moving it. But wen i step up next yr (new bow) i might give it a try

Back when i used to tornament shoot all the time we would practice at 100 yards for cokes with my buddies. Let me tell you when u shoot it alot u better be able to hit pretty close if bragging rights is on the line.

I've been shooting the 60 yard target almost exclusively at the new archery range in Franklin.

I like shooting at the Hendersonville range and it goes to 50 yds. I thought 50 yards was long enough...
I might have to try a little bit further this year since people are doing 80+ yds

I shoot out to the length of my practice range at 50 yards to work on form , but for hunting practice , I practice awkward shot angles from elevated platforms at unknown yardages and only shooting one arrow at each target . This is much more realistic hunting practice .
Deer don't stand still for groups , and most of my shots are at awkward , downward angles , less than 30 yards , through narrow openings in the tree limbs . It makes a huge difference in your hunting shots , and is much more difficult than you would think .
