They logged our 1000 acre lease back in the winter and spring. No clear cutting, just select cutting of pines. With all the rain and the new sunlight the forest floor exploded and the deer moved in. Now the loggers have decided to come back and select cut a 100 acre patch that they skipped earlier this year. This patch is only about 200 yds from my main hunting area. I think (and hope) they will be out by mid-October if the weather cooperates.

My question is do you think this will significantly affect the deer in the area? If the loggers are out by mid-October will that be enough time for things to calm down before our chasing phase in early November? The best time on our lease is the first two weeks of November.

The loggers shouldn't matter much. I killed a target buck a couple years ago after a doe while watching a dozer cut roads for a logging crew.

Two years ago I killed my biggest buck to date in the second week of November, about two weeks after loggers had finished select cutting my property. I couldn't tell that it affected the hunting any what so ever. Fast forward to today and I'm loving hunting the property with all of the dense under growth.

Could it even help by making them more "comfortable" with human scent? Anyhow, I've seen lots of deer tracks and sign in around logging activity before.

Our property was select cut 20 years ago and it is a hotbed for deer with all of the understory and fresh foliage. If they are actively cutting all week long during rut it will have a bit of an impact but overall it will just make it better.

The land I hunt gets a section logged every ten years or so. Last time I was talking to the loggers and they said that deer will walk up and watch them as they are working. Then the bulldozer operator said the samething about deer walking out on a logging road as he is widing the road. But I think the best time to hunt land that's being logged will be in the evening after the loggers call it a day.
