Lock-on stands and me

Do not get along, in not sure why, I've hunted out of every other stand and have owned some little cheap ladder stands that were smaller but lock-ons make me really nervous, and I'm sitting in one right now

They are the worst thing you can hunt out of imo. I use them but i really dont like them for many reasons.

I have never found a liking to them either ! Just something about not having anything around me I guess....In my climber I like knowing I have the top rail as a "rub rail" if I lean out to shoot etc. I do wear a harness as well but still can't seem to hunt out of a lock on.

Just remember with a safety harness you will not fall to your demise. I'm not crazy about them either and prefer my climber.

Different strokes I guess. I love a hang on. I really love the part where all you have to do is walk up to it, climb the steps, and sit down and hunt. No muss...no fuss. My Non-Typicals all have side rails and the shooting rail out front so you can't fall out of one and they're as solid as a rock.

Love mine, now there are cheap one that will hurt your back and there are good ones. I'm like Mike, nothing better than walking up and just climbing the steps and sit down, no noise at all.

I don't care for them, but we do have three we use, I try to find a tree that leans back a little. Seems to be a little easier on the back, the seats are terrible on the butt

I have always been on the fence with lock-ons. Never owned one, but hunted out of several (friends).

But - after working up a serious sweat this morning (26 degrees) struggling with getting my Summit up a not-so-round tree, i'm buying 2 Millenniums in the morning.

I did the same thing Saturday afternoon. I decided to use my climber instead of going to my lock on. Once I got up I was dripping sweat and had zero shots. I didn't move because of all the work it took to get there. Next time, I'm sticking with my pre hung stands.

Ladder stands can be a bear to put up, and moving them during the season is usually a non-starter, but I love the ease of climbing into them and the safety value.

During bow season and while hunting in the woods I will not use anything but a lock-on. But not just any lock-on. Like so many of you have experienced cheap seats = sucky hunt. I have two millenniums. Every set I have is all the same. i buy the cheap $35 climbing sticks from sportsmans guide, have an ezhanger, strap on the tree for my safety harness, and a pull rope. I have one millennium that I leave in my favorite spot to hunt and then i float the other stand in with me wherever it is im going to hunt. Climb the stick and slide the stand into the receiver and you are set. For those of you that feel more comfortable with a arm rest the new millennium "u" has a shooting rail attachment. Try one and if you dont like it ill buy it from you!!!

I have used them and still have a few hung. but I hate them don't feel safe in them they aren't comfortable at least none ive used except the millennium. just not a fan. we use ladder stand 97 percent of the time besides some out of climber and very rare from a hang on.

Have a bunch of hang on stands. Prefer them for bow hunting.
Loc-on Lems are my favorite.

I use the Muddy outfitter and Muddy lite. Love both of them, especially in those trees that you just can't get anything else in and when I need to make a move.

That being said, I would much rather sit in my ladderstands.

I prefer ladder stands, typically I will put them in places that will be good gun spots and just hope for shots with a bow, probably why I don't kill a whole lot with my bow but I kill a few, also use my climber to move in on deer once I find areas they are using , I just make sure the tree is good and don't go in blind

It all depends on what make and model lock on you are using. Some are terrible. Some are ok. Some are good. Some are great.

I love them. I used to hate them but i was hunting out of the small seat ones that killed my back. Now i have replaced all them with the bone collector hang on's with comfortable seats and shooting rails. I can sit in them all day long.

I use them all the time. The cheap ones,(which I've used for years) are rough on the hind end, and everything else. I've been upgrading to some more deluxe models for a couple of years, with hammock style seats and padded back rests, makes a BIG difference. ;) Oh, and I'm a purdy big feller too at 240.

I have two of them and several receivers, piece of cake putting them up and very comfortable.... I don't use climbers anymore

There must be a bunch of people hunting out of flimsy hang ons with shoddy climbing systems??? I don't see death traps? Mine are as solid as a rock. They may not be the most comfortable seating but I NEVER fear them shifting, falling, sliding down, or otherwise unsafe. And quiet as a mouse. They aren't as easy to put up or as fast as a climber so I don't consider them mobile stands but placed in an area that could see deer movement throughout the season they're the ticket.

I've definitely had them shift on me. In addition, that transition from the climbing sticks to the stand can be a bit tricky.

It's that step from the climbing sticks to the platform that keeps me out of lock-ons these days. I'm 6'4" and 215 +- and the seat/platforms are also too uncomfortable for a long sit for me. I did kill a nice Missouri 10 a few years ago 20 minutes after almost falling out of one stepping into it. I should have recorded my swearing and yelling. That seemed to call that buck in that day.

I use 90% lock-ons with climbing sticks and occasionally use a climber. Just the inconvenience of carrying the climber has gotten me to go with more permanent locations.

Mine are strapped in well, but I did have one instance this year where my ratchet strap became dry rotted and it was a little scary.
