I'm shooting 44grs of 5744 and hornady 250grn hp/xtp. Was wondering if there was a better load. Seems like I'm not getting the penetration on deer like I would think.

Dump the 250 XTP and get some Barnes Originals. Penetration won't be an issue.

I have shot a lot of 5744 and seldom will a 250 grn XTP being pushed by 5744 exit a deer. I made the switch to the 300 grn XTP and pass throughs became normal and accuracy improved as well.I attribute the increased accuracy to the longer bearing surface.Give it a try and you will be pleasently surprised.
