Savage 10ML I have IMR 4759 what is a good load for it. The load I have been using 43gr 250 gr bullet with the good sabots is good enough to kill a deer at a 100yrds. just want to see if there is something better. Just as soon stay with the 4759

I've never used 4759 but I think I remember reading somewhere to stick with 250 gr bullets with that powder. I've set up 3 different savage smokeless using 45 grains of Accurate 5744 with 300 gr XTP and MMP black sabot. All 3 guns were extremely accurate with this load out to 200 yards.

SR4759 is no longer made. You can use about 39gr of VV N110 to get around the same performance as your load with a 250gr bullet. Much cleaner than 4759 and super dependable too. A bit rougher on sabots though so i would stay under 42gr.

I have plenty of SR4759 and will to stay with it just asking if there is a better load.

What is your goal, long range shots? The only load I shot out of my .50 caliber Savage is 43 grains of IMR SR 4759 with 250 grain SST and MMP sabot. It chronoed 2350 fps and killed everything I shot at out to 150 yards. Sadly, it has not seen daylight in several years. The compact .45 break actions are just too fun to tote and hunt with for my style of hunting, and they knock the snot out of deer.

That is pretty much what I am shooting, just wanted to see if there is a better load using 4759. I have tried to go less sometime but never seen much better. My groups are not really what I want. Maybe they are as good as they are going to get.

You may want to try a 300gr bullet instead if your groups "are not really what i want". A 1-24 twist is better suited to a longer bullet than a shorter bullet. 4759 is a reasonably good powder for a 300gr also. Maybe not as good as a couple other slower powders but not bad at all. Another thing you might try is compare groups using a cheap 250gr XTP vs the SST.

Which sabot are you using?

The black MMP for hi velocity longer bullet may be a good idea will see what I can find.

Your 4759 load is the best light load in that gun.

The heavier load that most every 10ml shoots well is a Hornady 325 ftx in an orange MMP sabot over 63gr of Reloder 7.

MMP sabots and 250gr Barnes yellow tip bullets.

MMP has several sabots though. HPH-12, HPH-24 and the "short black" just to name a few. HPH-12 and the short black are the 2 that normally give the best results in a Savage MLII. The HPH-24 is usually too small loaded OD for most MLIIs

Is the powder side of the sabot stepped and does the number looked like its stamped or does it look etched? Both the 12 and 24 are stepped but the number looks different. The short black is not stepped if i recall. Its also the largest loaded OD of those 3.

Ignore the color....HPH-12 is the left sabot. HPH-24 is the right. Barnes just has their 24s made in blue.
