Livescope question.

Just picked up a super clean older bass boat. Never had a real boat. If put Livescope on it. Wanting to catch crappie and bream mainly. Do just need Livescope unit or fo you need another unit with side scan and such? Dumb question to most but I have no clue.

You could use your live scope only but it will be slower. Most people use side image and down image to find underwater structures then mark that with the gps then turn around and drop the live scope to catch the fish.

Where I fish you could buy just a livescope, put in, run until you see a bunch of boats, pull in amongst them, and start scoping. If you want to fish structure it's a lot easier to find with side scan. Once you find it you can jump up on the front deck and turn on the scope. Where I fish it's mostly white crappie and they suspend in open water. We don't fish structure much.

Most of my crappie are big singles suspended by themselves.. very rarely have I found a school of crappie on sidescan.. I basically just drop down my trolling motor and start scanning for fish.. typically the underwater structure holds smaller fish.. like a pound or less… every so often I'll find a 2 pounder in a tree top.. but it's rare

I don't know if you're talking 1 unit at the bow only? I have 1 regular fish finder with mapping (very important) with regular look down mode up front. I have live scope beside it and 1 with side scan and mapping at the console. My set up is my unit at the console is connected to the front unit. I'll side scan and look down while idling around, while doing that I'll mark stuff from the console. When I go to the front I'll look at my marks and investigate with my live scope. It works very well for me.
If you're going with live scope only up front you'll do fine. I like to see maps to see structure and sometimes turn off live scope.
You'll see stuff with livescop that you didn't see with sidedcan and look down modes.

Sidescan at the console and Livescope at the trolling motor you'll need two separate units. With live scope you don't need side imaging or downscan up front anymore. You'll want 2 separate units up front though. 1 for your Livescope and one just for mapping.

If I'm fishing structure, yes. However, where I fish the white crappie suspend in open water and we target one fish at a time. I usually just go to the mouth of a big creek and scan with my livescope until I figure out what depth most of the fish are in.
