figured with the wind and storms last night there was no way they were roosted up high on the ridge where they normally are. SO I came in from the top of the ridge and got about 1/4 down in the dark and just sat down to wait to listen. As the light comes on it seems I picked the EXACT spot 5 birds were roosted lol. I mean they literally were in the tree I was sitting under. They gobbled and strutted in the tree for an hour and I could have shot one of the toms off the limb all morning at 20yds. Was cool to see but I knew right away this hunt was over once I realized I was under them. they all eventually flew down to the bottom and moved out to a field. then the wind picked up and I had to leave anyways to do some work today.

I did mentally say if one of them took a dump on me while sitting there, our agreement may go a different route hahaha.

I did the same thing on Sunday...let em live to ply the game another day. Shooting off the limb just isn't my style either.

I did the same thing opening morning, went in blind and sat down - I was 23 yards per my range finder to a nice tom on a limb and a clear shot. I chose not to shoot him and of course he flew down and went the other way. He knew I was there. Now I've yet to kill a bird, but it is what it is.

2 were jakes. I didnt make a peep, just sat there as still and quiet as possible till they flew down and moved off. I was holding onto a small % they would pitch straight down and give me a chance or pitch above me and allow me to move and call them back. neither of those options happened lol.

That would've been cool to experience. I got up this morning thinking the wind would hide my noice but the wind and rain I decided to go back to bed.

I would have made the same mistake and set up for birds rooted low on the lee side of the ridge. And shooting one off the limb... just the same as shooting one from the truck window crossing the road IMO.

You didn't spook them, another good hunt coming up in the next couple days in your future.

Pretty cool when that happens. I accidently set up right under a big white oak a few years ago, that had a tom and 2 hens.
