I've never seen a real concentrated distinct time period for a rut. I've seen bucks chasing does from Opening Day of ML season on to a few days after Christmas and once even mid January. The most activity though seems to be mid to late December. December 13 was absolutely wild in 2012. I expect to see a buck at anytime from about Dec12th to around the 30th.

Like others have said, I've seen rut related activity from mid-November through January. The valley is earlier than the mountain. Late December is the best on our place at the foot of the mountain, but I saw 4 bucks checking does this morning.

December always seems like an awesome time to me in this area. I've never seen a buck chase a doe in November in this area.

Good to know! I hunt around Petersburg and wasn't sure when it got going.

i live near peteresburg and saw 4 mature bucks today and 3 yesterday in crossing my cut corn fields. none were the deer i am looking for but they are getting frisky

Definitely mid December till the end of the season. Don't burn yourself out because the best huntin is yet to happen!

I saw the first sign of chasing today in southern Lincoln county . Had bucks chasing doe on two separate farms. Several miles apart.
