Or at least I have with googan encounters. This season has been the worst ever and I swear the iq of fellow hunters has dropped precipitously since last year which is saying something.

1. I've tagged locator call googans
2. Googans who shoot at birds I'm working from 100+yards away
3. Googans who block my truck in on a wma gated road. That was fun actually as I had enough room to run a tow strap around a tree and drag their truck enough to let me get by. Doubt their drive train axle etc enjoyed it
4. Plenty of plastic turkey googans
5. Googans toting enough blinds, decoys etc it looked like a gypsy camp on the side of the mountain.

Long story short ive hunted 5 days and had googans ruin 4 hunts, the fifth I killed a nice bird. It's been a scene in the high country

It is very interesting to hunt TN public land to say the least. Googanry in mass abundance.

Had one on my fenceline owl hoot to gobbling roosted birds on me 5x before he started loud hen yelping nonstop 25 min before flydown time. He didn't mess me up, and provided for some nice entertainment... although I was a bit concerned he was going to jump the fence and come after the birds coming to me

What weird is that I only have googan encounters consistently in TN, maybe because I hunt Tn public land turkeys more than any other state...maybe, hopefully that's why.

Couldn't agree more. I hunt all over all season and in the last 5 years I've had the same total for all other states that I'll have in TN in a week. Our states hunters are not the greatest to be honest

He's not just talking about people who don't hunt his way. There are some real idiots out there on public land, and it's not because they carry a couple decoys or a locator call.

I don't label someone a googan by their gear or how they kill. It's a definition of someone who generally makes life miserable for other hunters or who seemingly can barely tie their own shoes.

I have a buddy hunting a WMA this morning that encountered Mr. Elmer Googan, himself. Buddy is chasing a bird. It crosses a road still gobbling sporadically. EG pulls up and starts in on his hooter. Persistently!

As EG approaches, my buddy hoots back to let him know that someone else is in there.

EG then, just how we still haven't determined, proceeds to produce the very loud "BEEP, BEEP" sound of a dump truck etc. backing up. We can't figure out if it was meant for my buddy, or as a locator call. Anyway, the bird by now was long gone, or had gome into hiding and my buddy called it a day.

Googans are extra thick up here in South Cherokee so far. Has made this first week very challenging to say the least. Still would not trade them or public land for anything. Solid entertainment. Best one I've heard in years was from an old man two years ago. Came across him in the road and he told me with a straight face, that he believed the turkeys had "bedded up" for the day and that he was headed to the house. :shock:

Good stuff as always Setterman, stay after'em. FYI, due to a surplus, TWRA actually increased the limit on googans to 10 this year, so you are still a few short of your limit. :tu:

IMHO, being overly sensitive is destroying the fabric of society. If someone gets their feelings hurt because someone else is called a googan for being a googan, I'd rather they not take up hunting. Makes the rest of us look bad.
