Lime Question

I got my soil samples back. Average PH is 5.2 It was suggested that I fertilize, but that is dang expensive. I was going to have ag lime spread. I've heard 1 ton per acre to raise 1 PH point. Is that correct?

Soil sample should tell you tons per acre for lime

x-2.....but i am willing to bet you need at least one ton per acre to get it from 5.2 to 6.5......and i dont bet.

It will likely be much more than that to raise it that much.. The amount of lime necessary to raise the pH a certain amount is dependent on soil texture. Sandy soils require much less lime than clay soils to raise the pH a given amount, silty soils being somewhere in between.

Hey man,..food plotting is not cheap,.. and everyone here will tell you,.. its useless unless you lime and fertilize accordingly. Your ph at 5.2 is to low to grow anything well,..so you will need lime. 1 ton will help it greatly per acre,.. and you could grow some clovers and such in there then,.. but you still need that fertilize to raise your P,K,& N in that plot for whatever you plant. Don't even bother with seed if you ain't gonna get that soil correct,.. you will be wasting your money even further,.. and not be statisfied with the result.

If you are bringing in a spreader,.. they can add the fertilize to it per your soil test. Do it right the first time,. it will save you in the long run!!
