I'm interested in the tree saddle type deals. I'm totally new to this, do you have to use tree steps or is there a way to climb without tree steps of lock on steps? I'm trying to figure out a lightweight set to hunt some public land with thick cover, small trees and can't use screw in steps. I've taken my climber but it's loud and catches vines and weighs in at 20lbs. Any recommendations?
 
A few options available vs screw in steps. Many different strap on steps/sections available from short 3 step pieces up to 20 ft strap on ladders. Another option if you can find one is a Treehopper system, which consists of an auger bit and hardened 8 inch bolts. This is a super light and compact system but may not be allowed due to tree damage on all public land? Climbing spikes is yet another option if your that serious about reducing weight and bulk?
 
Thanks Winchester, I ran across a thread in 2012 talking about the stepp ladder system and hope to get some of those. The muddy sticks are nice and light enough just so darn expensive. Guess I just need to bite the bullet and get some. I like the idea of staying mobile but want to make my setup as light as possible and as low profile as possible.
 
You can't find the stepp system anymore without paying 200$ for 10 used steps.

I have a lonewolf alpha and 5 sticks. Light weight and very quite. Rock solid also.

Around 25 but it's nothing like carrying a climber. It's flat, compact and with a molle system it's feels like 15 lbs plus I can get into any tree I want
