Lifelines

I've been planning for next year while all of you are hunting. I finally found a harness for my older two kids on clearance as well as another two man ladder stand.

Where would be the best place to buy rope and maybe a few carabiners for lifelines? I can but them without tax or shipping (hSS) in three pack for $70. Can I make them any cheaper?

After I watched this video I decided one of my projects for the off-season will be to make my own treestand lifelines. He has a very good point about how the treestand lifelines from HSS and other hunting companies are unnecessarily heavy and overpriced compared to what you can make with rock climbing gear.

He has a very good point about how the treestand lifelines from HSS and other hunting companies are unnecessarily heavy and overpriced compared to what you can make with rock climbing gear.

I used the principles of this video to make lifelines for all my non-ladder stands this year. Amen to calling out the HSS and others lifelines as overpriced, lower quality options.

For my summit climber, i am currently making a climbing lifeline (tether). Credit goes to Houser52 over at ArcheryTalk for the idea the photos attached are also his. It is basically the concept of losely attaching a tether to the cable on your climber. The ideas is that if the user-who has the tether attached to his vest - were to suddenly descend (due to a slip or break), the tether would come loose of the clips and grab the tree. I am plan to do some low-altitude testing of the system in the next couple of weeks. Here are the components

The clips are electrical straps that you can get at Home Depot or Lowes

I like his idea of a lifeline for climbers. I may have to try that with my Treewalker.

looks like a lot of unnecessary trouble for a climber. i just walk my tree strap up the tree with me.

I think HSS makes those clips that fix your tree strap to the cable. I know the problems with the hunter market type harnesses and if I fall I don't want to be 3' below my platform, so I like my strap up high. The tree strap isn't too much trouble with practice once I make a habit out of it.

That being said, if I take some of your advice and switch to a rock climbing type harness I think I will try that system!

looks like a lot of unnecessary trouble for a climber. i just walk my tree strap up the tree with me.

I think of it as a bluetooth headset for my tree stand. There's a hands-free benefit to it, albeit a small one. I have to wrap the rope around the tree anyway when I start climbing, so I'll just pop it in the 5 clips and I won't have to touch it again until I get to my desired hunting height.

Give me a bluetooth headset over a plug-in headset any day!

Make the switch to the rock climbing harness and don't look back. I didn't like it at first and actually listed it in the clsssifieds and then I saw some videos that vermin posted and realised I wasn't using it right. Since then I love it.
