a few steel leaders made up, gaff ready. after a stop by J & M's tackle shop for a few things, bring on the kings!!! just a few days more...

Stik,
We are down here now for a quick weekend trip. Things were really, really slow this morning. Recharging batteries and about to head out again.

Not much current and water is very calm. Slow Spanish bite, 1 king decked, 1 jack decked, and a handful of sheepshead. Bait is scarce, which is also part of the problem. Need to put together a plan for this afternoon!

Good luck. We will also be in destin in 2 weeks. We will probably go out on a party boat and fish the pier...But what I can't wait for is the surf fishing. Especially night shark fishing.

the first year we went, we had planned on a deep sea trip but were having so much fun on the pier we decided to save that money for other things. caught/hooked more sharks than I can count but you can't land them on the pier.

Caught my first sheepshead yesterday afternoon, and my bro caught a 22-lb ray. We decided to do the proper thing and find out how ray wings taste. Filleting it took a long time, but it was a learning experience. I'll probably post the results of that experience on the cooking forum :)

Still almost zero bait at the pier. All the LYs I saw caught were on a ribbon rig. I hope everything lines out good for you guys!

Yeah we have a lot of fun on the pier. We are usually there for the king run in the morning. But we Fish all levels of the pier and target what ever seams to be bitting that time of day. Heck I have fun making my own bait rigs to catch cigar minnows just to give them to people king fishing.
About the sharks we fish at night off the beach. So we can land them and there's not as many people on the beach.

it's a $500 fine to land a shark in gulf shores/orange beach.

Yeah I heard about orange beach last year. We go to orange beach once a year and go to destin once a year also. So I do my shark fishing in Florida.

you can shark fish at ft. morgan just west of gulf shores.

Just curious and I don't mean to take the thread off course, but why is there a fine for landing a shark?
Safety concern or something else?

they are afraid people will attract more sharks near the beaches. what they don't realize is by NOT keeping some of the sharks, there are more. sometimes it's impossible to deck a king on the pier before a shark gets it. I fought a 150+ lb 6 ft. bull shark to the pier last year before breaking it off.
