Leupold cds

Has anyone bought the cds scopes from leupold. How do they work? Thinking about getting the vx3L 4.5x14x50 with the cds. Any help be appreciated .

I have that same scope in a 40mm objective. You find a bullet that works for you (or multiple loads for that matter), and send them some data. This includes, Bullet type, weight, BC, muzzle velocity, caliber, average altitude and average temperature. I think that's it. Then they laser an elevation cap for you with yardage markers, so you just turn the dial to the correct yardage and squeeze. You can order multiple dials for somewhere around $50 IIRC. I have yet to order the dial for mine. It comes with a standard dial which I am using until I find a good load. I'm currently shooting Barnes Vortx. Good luck!

CDS is a low profile "M1 dial". While an M1 dial trumps all, the cds is not horrid. Dialing in moa trumps dialing a yardage mark for a certain load. I send all my Leupolds off for M1 elevation dials. However, the (4) cds scopes I have, all have cds moa dials as is from the factory. Anyone that is competent and shoots at range- dials in moa on their scope - not a yardage mark.

I wound up with a Weaver 3-15 Tactical on my 338 Lapua,,it has .10 Mil adjustment locking turrets,,with the Enhanced mil-dot reticle that is in the first focal plane,,

with someone on the spotter that is half way decent,at extended long range you can take the measurements with the reticle in the scope and either dial in corrections or hold off with the reticle,,

IMO for long range shooting the first focal plane reticle,with the adjustment knobs to match your reticle,.1 mil adjustments with the mil-dot reticle or 1/4 MOA adjustments and dots or hashmarks 2 MOA apart,is an absolute must

the mildot scopes with 1/4 MOA adjustments are way to complicated to use under pressure.

hunting . On a 300 win mag. Im hunting cutovers and fields . That's why I like the low profile scopes that leupold makes

I hope not to sound dumb. But the cds is it suppose to be more accurate than the bdc scopes . I going to be hunting with it out to 500 or 600 yards and alot of times especially I won't have time to be messing with dials long . Trying to get an example , if I shoot an inch high at a 100 yards and be sighted in at 200 . If I have that knob on 200 will I still shoot around an inch high at 100. Thats after I find a good load of course. I hope this makes any sense to y'all lol

The CDS dial is a theoretical compensation. There is no equal substitute for verifying your impacts at extended ranges and writing down/memorizing your exact dope. You can do the same with the bdc reticle, but your yardages will be less user friendly, most likely. The CDS is just easier to use. It doesn't make you "incompetent." I have mine on a .300 win mag as well.

I would just get the B&C reticle for 500 yard shooting
