The pic I saw the beard was only visible when feathers are pulled back, really just the stump of the beard. Is that considered a beard. Not trying to be difficult?
That would be an illegal bird.
The spring turkey regs say nothing about a gobbler or hen. It requires you to shoot a turkey with a VISIBLE BEARD.
The regs are that way because turkey hunting has become the most dangerous hunting we have in TN as far as serious accidents. We DO NOT want hunters shooting at various colors they think represents a gobblers head. The law requires that before shooting you verify that the bird has a VISIBLE BEARD. If you can't see a beard, it is obviously NOT VISIBLE and you cannot legally shoot the bird even if by all other characteristics the bird appears to be a gobbler.
If the feathers have to be pulled back to show the stump of a beard, it IS NOT A VISIBLE BEARD WHEN THE SHOT IS MADE AND IS NOT A LEGAL TURKEY during the spring season.
