Lots of variables to that question... Is this fence hard to get over, under, through? Good place for a stand at the gate areas?

I think deer will cross split rail fencing wherever they want, whenever they want so I dont think it will make much difference leaving them open.

If you have permission to leave them open and the deer are walking the fence then I would leave them open just to see what happens, can't hurt anything to try it.
