Went to LBL today to scout for a rifle hunt in a couple weeks. We walked out several spots. I haven't ever seen a year I couldn't find any acorns at all. Found a spot that had a lot of deer traffic. Where they were cross a back of a slough. And found one place on a ridge that had 2 big fresh scrapes and a couple fresh good rubs. That's it, kinda disappointed for the amount of terrain we covered.
 
Yeah,I have a hunt there myself the 14th and 15th on a area 16, never hunting it , but was hoping to find some acorns and sign! Guess we will be in for a lot of walking hte day before trying to find something! thanks
 
We were out there in late Sept, lots of acorns (mainly chestnuts though). Were the woods still thick and green from the Beech and young Hickory seedlings?
 
I was there all weekend and saw no acorns at all, very little sign at all. just a couple of scrapes and 3 or 4 rubs.
 
I also bow hunted there all this past weekend with a couple of buddies. Walked for miles and none of us saw any acorns. Saw some does, one spike, and found two rubs and some scrapes along a field edge.

For what its worth they really seem to be hitting the standing bean fields in the evening. Wasted an entire day hunting the cut corn fields, but no luck there at all. Saw a bunch along the Trace at night feeding on the grass, but only a couple in the freshly planted green fields. Strange.

Only thing I learned about LBL worth passing on is don't waste your time hunting fields. Deer stay in the woods when hunters are about.
