I got drawn for this hunt. Oct 23 -25 gun hunt is it any count? Is it worth going. Is it draw hunts only? I see they have point and spread restriction is this been in effect a while or just this year thanks for any help
 
If you got a tag you might as well go. You can't kill them if you ain't in the woods! The restrictions have been in place for quit a few years. Its open to bow hunting but draw only for M/L and rifle. I'm over there small game hunting and fishing a lot and I have never seen a buck that would make the minimum but there have been some good ones killed over there.
 
I don't recall aplying for it only hunts I applied for every year is lbl and president island never even heard of the place but this is the second year I have been drawn for it only reason I'm asking about it is because it's a 6 hour drive round trip not including scouting days 4 days of vacation taken off work wanted some basic information before wasting vac time money and a lot of gas. Thanks for everyone help
 
If you were fairly close and got a tag you might as well go but I wouldn't make that kind of trip for it. I live about 30 minutes from it and I don't even put in for it anymore.
 
Stay at the house. Not worth driving that far to hunt Laurel Hill. If it was 15 years ago I'd say go. IMO that place has gone down hill bad.

I suggest you skip it. Laurel Hill is a narrow but long WMA that is surrounded by local farms. It's not shaped right for antler restrictions. The Locals LOVE the WMA. They enjoy the protected deer running on and off their property and pick them off anytime they choose.

TWRA and the Corps did a good job putting in some food plots and habitat to try and attract and hold more deer but then the WMA was HAMMERED with the EHD a few years back.

I've hunted that draw hunt 4-5 times and only saw one or two deer in all those hunts. There are deer there, but unless you have access through on the the local farms, the chances of you getting a shot are slim.

That's just my opinion. But I wouldn't drive more than 1/2 hr to hunt that place.

I'm a local and do indeed love the wma, but I'm 45 min. Away and don't own land there. It's like anywhere else in the country you hunt, feast or famine. If youlive close enough to spend alot of time there you can do great but just going in blind is not a good option. That's the exact reason I don't apply for any other wma's or refuges in the state, just to far away to have any reasonable expectations

I went in blind and saw deer 95% of my sits. went in 2010 after EHD and had the ML and gun hunt near thanksgiving. Saw one deer big enough to shoot cross the road and if I would have listen to my gut and hunted on Thursday of the ML hunt in the spot I wanted to, I would have had a chance at a 8pt that went 128 3/8.

that being said, I wouldn't drive 3 hrs one way for any draw hunt other than PI.
