Got a pic?

No, I just saw the pic in book. There was a 169 non typical taken in 2018. I have not even seen the elusive quail.

I never do worth a flip at Laurel Hill...just hunt it because it is a pretty place.

I saw 2 or 3 quail there back in October

I ended up changing areas on Sunday. I went in late and closest hunter was parked about 3/4 mile from me. There were not many hunters that I saw.

I sat for 2 hours then did some exploring. Snuck up on a button buck in a food plot. Watched 8 does finally work thier way into a food plot during last 20 minutes of light. I saw older rubs and just a few scrapes that did not seem very fresh. I could not tell if rut was over or had not begun. All the does had fawns.

I did find where I will hat next year and take 13 year old kids with me since it should fall after Thanksgiving next year. Assuming we get drawn, but I have had good luck drawing just not getting on bucks.

I have a lot of family history tied to the place, so that is why I enjoy it. I killed my first deer on private bordering the WMA and the old checking station belonged to my family. I may add a couple of photos.

It was a dandy of a buck I seen the pictures

You would think that TWRA would post some pics from quota hunts on their site to stimulate more application income....at least I would.

There used to be a lot more hunts that were quota only for WMAs. In my opinion they should still do it to offer more opportunities for public hunters on key weekends in November and December (not October). Not everyone has a private piece of ground to hunt during ML or rifle openers. I also wish more WMAs had area quadrants like LBL to distribute hunter density. And, don't allow juveniles to take bucks lower than the quality buck minimum. I just do not see the fascination with offering so many hunts in October before about the 25th.

Couple of photos

Found public pics on the web, so here are a couple of bucks....maybe I should have hunted harder.

From 2018... some older pics from 2011 and 2012 sure had some nice deer taken. Not sure when EHD hit hard. The tornado left some nice clear cutting in 2013.

I hunted the first rifle hunt this month there. I only got to hunt that friday but from daylight until noon it was shots coming from everywhere around me. I also drew this last weekend as well just a few shots on friday and maybe 2 shots on Saturday. Last year out there I blew my chance on what would have been my biggest buck. I had a couple chances for a headshot but I just can't make myself shoot a buck in the head.

EHD hit really bad in 07 and then hit again pretty hard in 2012. There have been some reports of dead deer found this year as well, but seems like the herd is in good shape.

Well unfortunately we can no longer use that online kill tracker for wma,s and counties. It was my understanding that kill was about 6 ML, 20 1st gun, and less than 15 on 2nd gun by Saturday night this past weekend. I only heard a few shots on Sunday and they could have been on private.

There are some long ridges and big hollers there. Plus some areas of very open timber.

it's got some great ridges and hollers but most of it isn't too steep so it's easy walking.

I hope TWRA fixes the hunter toolbox
