Late Summer Cutting

Hope to get started this week and finish by Oct 1st, got delayed but doing 3 clear cuts to open for plots and another duck pit.
Plus select cutting other areas, about 45 acres total, will have track hoe popping stumps as soon as the clear cut areas are done.
Wish it was done now, this area is way to open, deer keep moving across to other landowners after leaving the river bottoms

I'm kinda in the same situation. I have a contract with a logger that says he is to be "finished" by Sept. 1st. I don't think he is going to make the deadline if he doesn't start this week. Looks like my archery season is going to be a washout. :(

In the past I've had the deer walk down the skid roads after the workers quit for the day, for me they are only working on about 20-25% of my land

I'm just having two 5 acre cuts done on my 60 acres. I was hoping that it would be cut in time to do some brush clearing and put in some food plots before season opened. I guess time will tell..........

Sounds good! Deer are curious i've found out. I've had them come up to me while cutting firewood.
I'm just anxious for my logger to get the job finished I guess.

The Contract Cutter showed up today, said one of his guys was excited to be on the place, they had cut on it about 9 years ago and this guy was hoping to get a few rattlesnakes to eat...wish he had never told me. In 5 years never seen one or a copperhead...
hope he lucks out

Yeah, good luck to him. Nor much I hate worse than a snake. I've seen several Copperheads and one very large Rattler here on my place. Almost stepped on a Copperhead coming out of my stand right at dark one time, he was coiled up and ready. Scared the bejesus out of me!!!

Dude dont worry about it. Deer donnot pay that much attention to us when we are working. I see deer all the time running a skidder and have jumped quite a few bedded behind our loader when nature calls. We had a spike walk inbetween me and my dad last week he was on the ground cutting and the deer walked withing feet of him.Dont worry!

Last year, my loggers were cutting right next to one of my salt licks. In fact, the log-loading deck backed right up to the salt lick. I would get a ton of daylight pictures of the dozer and skidder going round and round within 10 feet of the salt. Yet at night, deer would be on the salt.

Even better. Good habitat this year!

I love those "benefits this year" projects. I hate waiting years for timber cuts to grow into cover.

Football Hunter, It's Stewart County, and for ridge tops great dirt with all the years of organic matter from Hardwood forest on
it, but no sand

Those are not a problem...its the Cross Creek Hunters
