My son and I had a great time in the woods last weekend.

Friday evening we went to roost a bird but only heard one on the neighbor's property.

Saturday we had a good hike in the dark but didn't hear any gobbling except for the bird on the neighbors which only gobbled once after fly-down.

At around 9:30 we decided to go get as close is we could and see if he would cross the fence. We got settled and about 20 minutes later we had 3 Jake's sneak in behind us silently. They were very generous and allowed my son to get turned around for a shot.

We spent the afternoon back at our rental and had a nice dinner together before the storms rolled in.

The next day we got on 3 Toms but again they were across the fence. We called one in to about 70yds but he wouldn't cross the fence. Unfortunately this wasn't the most exciting part of the day….

On our way back to the car we came across a cow that was being eaten by buzzards. As we were standing about 20 feet from it talking about how cruel nature can be, the cow lifted its head and let us know it was still alive.

I was able to get ahold of the farmer and let him know it needed to be shot. Luckily earlier that morning we had an encounter with a bull on the farm which reminded me to put my pistol in my pack.

After helping the cow find peace we started back to the car and encountered the rest of the cattle. The bull from earlier spotted us in the field and started calling to the rest of the herd.

I assumed he was telling all his ladies to come to him but I was wrong. We gave him a wide berth and began to cross a creek as he approached us from the rear. Just as I stepped into the creek I saw another, much larger bull, coming directly at us and he was not happy.

He pinned us up against an old rock wall and proceeded to lift up a fallen cedar tree with his head and shove it towards us. I don't think 5 grown men could have moved the tree an inch and he did it with ease.

We had nowhere to go with bulls on either side so I took my pistol out and was ready to shoot him if he took another step. He decided he wasn't going to back down to my yelling at him. As he picked up the tree again I fired a shot into the ground in front of him.

He changed his attitude quickly and crossed the creek towards the other cows.

We were both pretty shook up as we made it back to the car which ended our weekend together.

A few more picture from a fun adventure we will both never forget.
