Ok I'm looking to put in my first food plots. There will 3-4 of them at about 1/2 acre a piece. They will have full sunlight for at least 7 hours a day. I'd like a perennial plot but I'm open to suggestions. I'm in Rutherford Co. I was thinking red and white clover and winter wheat with maybe some rape or turnips?

Get a couple of 40 pound bags of Biologic Green Patch Plus at Tractor Supply. One bag will plant 1 acre and it is a mixture of oats, wheat, brassica and clover. I always have good luck with it.

I'm doing about an acre of daikon radishes. I've already got leftover sweet corn still standing. I'm mostly doing the radishes for soil preparation for a pumpkin patch next year. Does this sound like a good plan?

Oats were a big hit on my place last yr. They cant take the heat so need to hold off planting til late Sep

Something simple and easy...skfooter's idea is good. Or buy a couple of bags of seed wheat and throw it and seed clover seed into it then or after it sprouts. Super cheap and easy

Turnips are ok, but I'd rather have the clover, but the wheat should be resilient enough to give you some late season green and be active in bow

Here is my question for you experienced plotters. How important is it to have a soil test done? I know you need to know how much lime to add to the soil but couldn't you just take a guess at 1 ton per acre?
